Alabama College Application Week!
It’s time to take the next step toward your future! Alabama College Application Week encourages high school seniors to explore their postsecondary options and complete college applications without paying application fees. This week, seniors can apply to over 60 participating colleges (in-state and out-of-state) and have the application fee waived. See Ms. Gillman for a list of participating schools and apply! This statewide initiative is part of a broader effort to increase access to college and other postsecondary credentials, particularly for students who may be the first in their families to attend college.

Students in Dr. McInnis's Dual Enrollment Biology learned about the molecular structures of different molecules. Here they were seeing how the sequence of amino acids affect how the proteins fold in our body. One small change can make a big difference. Oh and of course we practiced our statistics determining if Double Stuff Oreos are really double stuffed!

Most recent investigation by Dr. McInnis' Academy of Biomedical Science Medical Intervention students was Antibiotic Resistance. 🦠 This one has always been one of the favorites because the kids get great results, but now it’s personal. #ifykyk.
🧫 Getting these students to understand when, why, and which antibiotics they should take, and advocate for themselves by asking questions has become a mission. Here Dr. McInnis' students are learning to perform an antibiotic resistance test. Two strains of bacteria 🧫 6 different antibiotics. Very different responses. #AMSTI #PLTW #marygmontgomery

Our MGM Fishing Team hit the water last weekend at Cooters Pond for their first stop on the Wiregrass Student Angler Trail!
The Vikings had an incredible start to the season with 3 Top 20 finishes and 2 Top 5 finishes in Big Fish!

Last week our City of Semmes Junior City Council had their monthly meeting. The students have 2 community projects they are currently working on while also learning about community engagement and government policy. Looking forward to the initiatives these students are working toward.

Forensic Science students in Mrs. Touchstone's classes shared their research on real cases from the Innocence Project.⚖️
Each student chose an exoneree whose wrongful conviction involved eyewitness misidentification or faulty/misapplied forensic science. They researched the case, the evidence that contributed to the conviction, how long they spent wrongfully incarcerated and what ultimately helped uncover the truth.
These cases are a powerful reminder of why forensic science matters. Evidence can change a life, which means it must be collected, analyzed, interpreted, and presented with accuracy and integrity.
Forensic science isn’t just about solving crimes—it’s about getting the science right and making sure the evidence tells the truth. 🔎⚖️
