Friday, July 10, we officially held the first meeting of the Semmes Junior City Council, and what a great start it was!
Our students learned about local government, how a council meeting is conducted, and the important role public service plays in our community. They also elected their first student leaders. Congratulations to President Melody McLean and Vice President Nathan Williams!
We are excited to watch these outstanding young leaders grow throughout the program. We know they will gain valuable leadership skills, learn more about how local government works, and make a positive impact in our community along the way.
We can’t wait to see what this year’s Junior City Council accomplishes. Congratulations to all of our students! We’re looking forward to an amazing year!

Our Semmes FFA members had a busy and exciting day!
Our State FFA CDE qualifiers in Agricultural Education and Agricultural Communications traveled to compete at the state level, representing our chapter with pride. We are incredibly proud of their hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence. This year was especially exciting as it marked the inaugural Agricultural Communications CDE for the state, and we were proud to have Semmes FFA students among the first competitors to participate in this new event.
After the competition, students had the opportunity to visit Young's Plant Farm , where they toured the Trial Garden and greenhouses. The visit gave students a firsthand look at plant production, variety trials, and the work that goes into supplying quality plants to growers and consumers.
Experiences like these help connect classroom learning to real-world agricultural careers and showcase the many opportunities available in our industry.
Congratulations to our competitors, and thank you to Young’s Plant Farm for sharing your knowledge and facilities with our students! 🌿💙💛 #SemmesFFA #FFA #GrowingLeaders #AgriculturalEducation #CDEs
