As part of the experience, students explored how the avenue later became known as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, gaining a deeper understanding of the social and historical changes that took place during segregation and beyond. They discussed the impact of these changes on the local community and reflected on the resilience and contributions of those who lived and worked in the area.
Throughout the tour, students were able to learn about the importance of preserving local history and cultural landmarks,
understand the effects of segregation and the Civil Rights Movement on everyday life, recognize the role of community leaders and businesses in shaping history, and make connections between past events and present-day society.
We also visited the Isom Clemon Civil Rights Memorial Park, located across from the cultural center, where students were able to enjoy the outdoor space and reflect on what they had learned throughout the day. After the tour, we enjoyed a relaxing walk to lunch at The Insider on Dauphin Street in the downtown district of Mobile, where students had time to unwind and fellowship together.
Overall, the field trip was a meaningful and memorable experience that brought history to life for our students. The Evolving Butterflies not only expanded their knowledge but also deepened their appreciation for the cultural and historical roots of the community. Special thanks to Sabrina Thornton for our new shirts. We love them.

The choir was accompanied was by Mrs. Julia Malone on piano, with page-turner, Carmen Hill, and Dennis Coleman, III on percussion.
The ladies received all Superior ratings on their performances of the spiritual, "Children Go Where I Send Thee" and the Latin piece, "Plaudite".

A huge thank you to Ms Tokie Dunn for coming out and pouring into our girls. Your message and powerful acronym F.L.Y. First Love Yourself was exactly what they needed to hear. Loving yourself is so important, and today our girls were able to open up, share, and talk about some of the things they are dealing with in their lives. Creating a safe space for them to express themselves made this experience truly special.
Thank you again for encouraging our girls to F.L.Y. 🦋💜
